New Cell Phone Laws in Effect |
|
We would like to remind parents, staff and student that new Illinois cell phone laws have gone into effect as of January 1st. The key changes are as follows: - It is illegal to use any text-based service (text messaging, email, web, Facebook, etc.) while driving a car. (GPS usage is exempt from this law.)
- It is illegal to talk on a cellphone without the use of a handsfree device (Bluetooth headset, handsfree-equipped vehicle) in school and construction zones.
- It is illegal for anyone under the age of 19 to use a cell phone at all while driving. This includes a ban on handsfree devices.
As with seatbelt laws, police are allowed to stop motorists and issue tickets for these offenses. More information can be found in this PJ Star article. |

Ink & Toner: Keep 'Em Coming! |
|
Thanks to everyone who has been sending in their used ink and toner! We have received several packages from community members and we almost have our second large box ready to ship out to the recycler. This box will probably go out before the winter break, but we will continue to collect throughout the school year. The recycler also takes cellular phones and related accessories such as batteries and chargers. We can accept all HP and Canon ink and toner printer cartridges, but this does not include copy machine toner. |
